The Holiday Feeling comes from minimal workload
I'm not going to lie; I certainly like not having a lot of work these days. I am getting to know what the holiday season will be like in my new job, and so far, so good. Even if we don't get the day off, we are as close to it as possible. I took it as "a day off with pay" because of how it came to be. It was super relaxed, not because we decided to ignore the job we had, but because there was literally nothing else to do for the day. It was beautiful. We are expecting similar days until the new year, albeit not as inactive as December 25, but certainly way calmer than normal.
On the other hand, I've been using all the free time that came my way in what I feel is a "productive" way. I say it like that, without much conviction, because that time did not produce anything per se, so I am stretching the term a little. But I really think of learning something as having produced knowledge, so getting to read about something new and learning about it counts as a productive day in my book. I read a lot of history, and I am getting to know my country better, and that's both interesting and exciting.
That's the book I am reading at the moment, and oh boy, that's an experience. I don't remember how long it has been since I last read literature written in my own language. I've been so focused on learning proper grammar and polishing my little English that I completely neglected my own tongue, except in my household (which is so few times). My job, my hobbies, and most of my friends speak in English, and so did my last reads for a couple of years, maybe. So yeah, that's something that I immediately felt, and the second thing is a little too obvious, but man, the amount of historical information that we don't know is staggering. Each page turn tells me a fact about the place I live that I completely ignored until that very moment, and it feels amazing.
Top that feeling with the fact that I'll get to know my country not only by reading about it, but by actually traveling to beautiful places all over the country starting this very January, and it's becoming super exciting to learn all this right now.
So not much for today; just reading while freeing my time at work. I'm also taking some of that time to make my Google Calendar look good and cool. Also, due to being chronically unfocused, I get to scroll through my newly created Reddit feed for the extension of ten bananas per the app statistics, and I've joined a couple of Discord servers that I already know will fail to facilitate conversation. Looking forward to tomorrow and the last weekend of the year. Cool things are coming. :)
Peace.
